BC women netters edged, 5-4

WINFIELD – The Bethany College women's tennis team (3-6, 0-2 KCAC) lost its second straight KCAC match to start conference play, and third in a row overall Thursday afternoon, to the Moundbuilders of Southwestern College (6-5, 2-1 KCAC). The Swedes lost 5-4 at the T.H. Vaughan Tennis Center .

The Swedes started slow losing all three of the doubles matches. Juliana Bezerra and Kittey Edwards lost 9-8 (6) in a hard-fought match. Mackenzi Choitz and Amelia Fabrizius lost the No. 2 doubles match 8-6. Kara Agamaite andMichelle Rambo also lost a 9-8 (6) tiebreaker in the No. 3 doubles slot.

Bethany fared better in the singles portion of the match by going 4-2. The Swedes won the top three singles matches before dropping two out of three.

Berzerra started the Swedes’ singles rally with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Southwestern's Sara Peck in the No. 1 singles match. The strong play was continued by Agamaite who won the No. 2 singles match 6-0, 6-0. Choitz finished off the top three with a 2-6, 6-4, 10-4 thrilling third-set victory.

Edwards dropped the No. 4 singles match 6-1 and 6-4. However, Fabrizius won the No. 5 singles competition 6-4, 6-3. Rambo ended up losing the No.6 singles match 6-1 and 6-1 as the Swedes came up one point shy of a thrilling comeback.

The Swedes will be in action again Saturday when they travel to Hillsboro to take on Tabor College.
