It was the Reno County invasion Thursday in the McPherson Invitational Golf Tournament at Turkey Creek.

Hutchinson’s Turner Wintz captured medalist honors with a 1-over-par 71, while Buhler edged out the Salthawks by one stroke for the team title, 315-316.

Wintz shot rounds of 35-36. Slick greens and tough pin placements led to scores being higher than normal, not to mention there was some freshening wind. Only seven golfers broke 80 and in the past, there have been as many as 20.

Derby’s Quincy Stith took second with a 74, while rounding out the top five were Mac McNish of Buhler (75), Jeremy Dunham of Derby (75) and Brogan Jones of Sterling (76).

MHS coach Kurt Kinnamon admitted he was hoping for a higher finish for his team on its home course as the Bullpups were ninth with a 353. Dylan Blosser led the Bullpups with an 82 and made the Top 20 by taking 19th. Other scores were Jacob Lackey (86), CJ Steiner (90), TJ Stites (95), Casey Cheek (96) and Wyatt Porter (105).
