McPherson College’s baseball team climbed back to the .500 mark in KCAC play here Friday with a sweep of Friends.

The Bulldogs won 5-2 and 15-3 decisions to level their conference mark at 9-9. The teams are playing two more games today, this time in Wichita.

MC’s Taylor Werts threw a nice game in the opener, allowing just five hits and did not walk a batter. He was so efficient that he needed only 69 pitches.

Jordan Slaton was 3 for 3 with three RBIs and a homer. Zach Wilson also homered and drove in the other two runs. Mac actually trailed 2-0 until the Bulldogs tied the game in the third, then went ahead for a good with a run in the fifth.

It was an offensive feast in the second game for Mac, which plated runs in five of six innings. The highlight was an eight-run fourth that tore the game open.

Slaton and Wilson again went yard. Austin Russell was 3 for 4 with four RBIs, while Wilson was 2 for 3 with three RBIs. Werts also stroked three hits, and Seth Davenport scored three runs and drove in two.

Scott Hughes was the beneficiary of the Bulldogs’ offensive prowess. He spaced out nine hits over the seven innings and did not allow a walk while fanning three.

Mac took a 14-23 overall record into today’s games.
