WICHITA — Bethany College’s track and field team competed Saturday in the Wichita State Invitational.
"We had over 20 personal bests and one school record this weekend,” Bethany coach Ken Ciolek said. “Seth Derr led the way, breaking his own school (javelin) record (208-9) and placing fifth overall. Seth's throw currently ranks him fifth nationally and broke his school record by five meters.
“Other highlights from Day One came from our distance core as Zach Hartwell, Kylee Martinez, Elizabeth Benoit and Araceli Aburto all set personal bests in the 1,500. James Farris ran a great opening steeple chase race, and Jeremiah Gerardy ran a very solid race in the 5K. Day Two picked up right where we left with personal bests by Seth Maples in the 200, Callie Albers in the 400, Sierra Sherrod in the 100, and Araceli again with a personal best in the 800. One of the big performances of the meet came from Berry Garfinkel. Barry set two personal bests in the 100 and 200. His personal best in the 100m came even with his blocks slipping back, and Barry being able to recover and finish third in his heat."
The Swedes next compete April 17-19 at the KU Relays in Lawrence.
