WICHITA — McPherson College’s baseball team split Saturday with Friends to finish the weekend with a 3-1 series victory.
Mac, which had swept the Falcons on Friday, now stands 10-10 in the KCAC, 15-24 overall. Friends had entered the weekend with a glossy 27-13 record.
The Bulldogs probably felt like they gave the first game away. They were up 8-2 after 4 1/2 innings, but the Falcons roared back for a 10-8 victory.
Tom Potter ripped a triple and two singles to lead Mac. Other standouts were Austin Russell (two hits, two RBIs, three runs scored), Jose Nossa (two hits) and Dorian Shelton (two hits).
Brant Rhoades took the loss.
In the second game, it was Friends that jumped out to the big lead, going up 6-2 after two innings.
But Mac chipped away, then scored five times in the sixth to go up 11-7. Friends did strike for three in the bottom of the inning, but Josh Grant was able to bow his back and keep the Falcons off the board the rest of the game.
There were plenty of hitting heroes: Zach Wilson (3 for 3, four runs scored), Russell (2 for 2, two RBIs, three runs scored), Taylor Werts (three hits, three RBIs), Jose Nossa (three hits, four RBIs) and Potter (two RBIs).
Mac is supposed to play Monday at Newman, weather permitting.
