MMS thinclads take numerous gold medals

HAYSVILLE — McPherson Middle School’s track and field teams turned in numerous outstanding performances Thursday in the Haysville Invitational.

Team scores were combined. The girls’ teams combined to take second, just eight points out of first, while the boys were third.

Highlights:

• 7th grade boys — Taylor Huff  had a big day by winning the long jump and high jump. Gabe Hoover had the other first in the 1,600.

• 8th grade boys — The team came up with four firsts, two apiece by Darrius Armstrong and Andrew Powell. Armstrong won the 1,600 and long jump, while Powell won the high jump and 200.

• 7th grade girls — The Bullpups grabbed a lot of gold in this division. Brooke Miller was outstanding by tripling in the 200 hurdles, long jump and high jump. Chelsea Stoppel doubled in the 200 and 100. Laura Wurm snared the 1,600 and Megan Eisenbarth captured the shot put.

• 8th grade girls — This group contributed heavily as well. Aislinn Hughes tripled, winning the 100, 200 and 100 hurdles. Jessie Kynaston doubled in the 400 and 800. Other individual winners were Elle Barrett in the long jump, Tiffany Slechta in the high jump and Bailea Crist in the 200 hurdles. The 4 x 100 relay team of Crist, Hughes,  Barrett and Kenzie Goering) also took first.
