GOESSEL — The Hesston High and Berean Academy track and field teams could very well sweep their respective classes at state next month.

The two titans went head-to-head Tuesday in the Goessel Invitational with Berean prevailing in both divisions.

Berean’s girls outscored the Swathers, 216-184.

Ali Jost doubled for the Swathers by winning the 100 (13.0) and 400 (1:03.4). Also earning gold were Caylee Richardson in the shot (32-11 1/4) and Jessica Guariola in the 300 hurdles (55.4).

The Swather boys, who were without four-event standout Ryan Schadler, were second to the Warriors, 221-138. Earning firsts for the Swathers were Justin Smith in the triple jump (40-10), Daniel Fulghum in the long jump (19-10), Luccas Schmucker in the 3,200 (11:15.9), Zach Esau in the 1,600 (5:00) and Austin Bollinger in the 200 (28.0).

Hesston also won two relays — the 4 x 400 (Fulghum, Bollinger, Jonathan Weber and Cole Rostetter in 3:39.5) and the 4 x 800 (Weber, Schmucker, Bollinger and Cody Nuss in 8:51.9).
