VALLEY CENTER — Bryan Otte has resigned as head volleyball coach at Valley Center High School.

Prior to Valley Center, Otte constructed an amazing program at Moundridge, where he won five state championships in 11 years.

At Valley Center, the Hornets won 30 matches in his first year, then no less than 33 after that. He was 213-35 in six years at Valley, including the 2011 season when the Hornets were 41-3 and took third in the state. They made four state trips in his six years, twice holding the No. 1 seed, but never made the finals.

For his career, Otte is 578-76.

Otte told Randy Fisher of The Ark Valley News that he has “no solid plans to coach anywhere next year,” but didn’t rule out a return to coaching at some point.

Otte is the second longtime coach to step down at Valley Center in the last month. Earlier, Brian Shelton resigned as wrestling coach after a long-and-successful tenure.
