LINDSBORG — Smoky Valley’s softball team upset Lyons in Tuesday’s opener before the Lions earned the split in the nightcap.
The Vikings, entering the day 1-7 while Lyons was 6-2, won the opener 3-1 behind the strong pitching of Brynne Stockman, who scattered seven hits and fanned 10.
Morgan Loder crushed a two-run homer in the third inning, which proved to be the difference. Stockman also drove in a run to help her own cause.
It was all Lyons in the second game after it scored six runs in the second inning to propel it to a 10-5 decision.
Hannah Morrical drove in two runs for Smoky Valley, while Keni Campbell smoked a pair of doubles. Jurnee Gregg added two singles. Hannah McBride took the loss on the mound.
The Vikings play Friday at Nickerson.
