HILLSBORO — Hesston didn’t win either No. 1 division on Tuesday in the Hillsboro Trojan Tennis Classic, but its depth came through to help the Swathers to the team title.
Hesston scored 59 points to outlast Wichita Independent, which scored 53.
Other scores were Wichita Trinity (52), Sacred Heart (36), Wichita Collegiate (26), Neodesha (16) and Hillsboro (12).
Isaac Penner won the No. 2 singles division for the Swathers, winning his title match 8-1. At No. 1 singles, Hesston’s Keegan LeFevre took third place.
In doubles, Hesston’s Grant Dahlsten and Garrett Roth took second at No. 1 as a round-robin was played. At No. 2, Gus Williams and David Geidel made the finals before settling for second place.
“We played pretty well,” Hesston coach Mark Dahlsten said. “We need to have a few good days of practice as I feel that we are getting a little bit sloppy on some things. We have been playing so much that it has been hard to work on some of those things, but should be able to start to address some of those the rest of this week and next. I like where we are sitting right now heading into the end of our season.”
The Swathers will play in the prestigious Wichita Collegiate Tournament of Champions on Saturday.
