McPherson College’s Joan-Marc Fajula Rodriguez has been named the NAIA Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the national office announced on Wednesday.
Fajula Rodriguez, a freshman from Olot, Spain, helped the Bulldogs to a 4-0 week with dominant wins over Kansas Wesleyan (9-0), Ottawa (8-1), Central Christian College (9-0) and Southwestern (9-0).
Fajula Rodriguez went 2-0 at No. 2 singles, defeating Dylon Neal of Central Christian (6-4, 6-3) and Jordan Tompkins of Southwestern (6-0, 6-0).
The freshman also stepped up at No. 1 singles, going 2-0 by besting Leo Mendez of Kansas Wesleyan (6-1, 6-0) and fellow freshman Matthew Barlow of Ottawa (6-1, 7-6).
Fajula Rodriguez and partner Rafael Bulnes went 4-0 on the week at No. 1 doubles, cruising to wins over the top duos from Kansas Wesleyan (8-0), Ottawa (8-0), Central Christian College (8-2) and Southwestern (8-1). Fajula Rodriguez and Bulnes are currently ranked as the No. 13 doubles tandem in the NAIA by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
On the year, Fajula Rodriguez boasts a 15-4 record in both singles and doubles.
