EL DORADO — Even without standout Claire Denk, out with an injury, the McPherson High girls swimming team placed fourth out of eight teams Friday in the El Dorado Invitational.

“We were hoping that she would have been ready to swim Friday, but the doctor said no,” said MHS coach Bonnie Sue Fisher, who herself missed the last meet when she hurt her back at the pool. “However, even without Claire in the water — and she was a great assistant coach — we ended up fourth in the meet and could have easily beat El Dorado if she had been able to swim.”

Katie Wurm had the top finish of the day, a third in the 100 backstroke. Also with good days, according to Fisher, were Ellen Yowell, Shea Cook, Kellsie Corrigan and Callie Tolbert.
