OTTAWA — Great pitching Saturday by Clayton Cozzitorto enabled Bethany College’s baseball team to secure a spot in the upcoming KCAC Postseason Tournament.

Cozzitorto pitched a four-hit shutout in the first game and Erik Pedersen drove in Pablo Contreras in the sixth inning with the game’s only run in a 1-0 BC victory. That assured the Swedes of making the postseason.

Ottawa earned the split with a 4-3 victory in the second game, which went eight innings.

The Swedes finished KCAC play 13-15 and will take a 21-29 overall record to Great Bend this week for tourney play. Pairings have yet to be announced.

Cozzitorto walked only one and fanned five, while needing just 85 pitches. He survived the seventh inning after serving up a leadoff triple.

Ottawa won the second game when it scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth after Bethany had taken a 3-2 lead.

Contreras, Daniel Hordo and Nicholas Ceccarelli all had two hits for Bethany.

Cory Skerce took the loss for the Swedes. McPherson High grad Aaron Marshall scored two of the Braves’ four runs in the game.
