NICKERSON — Smoky Valley’s softball team appears to be finding itself.
After starting the year 1-7, the Vikings have now won three of their last four following a Friday sweep of Nickerson.
The Vikes were an 11-4 winner in the first game, with Brynne Stockman earning the win. She had a no-hitter until the sixth inning, when the Panthers touched her for four runs. By then, the Vikings had a 10-0 lead. The freshman hurler finished the game with 12 strikeouts and helped her own cause by scoring two runs and stealing two bases.
Jurnee Gregg and Kelsie Anderson stroked three hits apiece, while Carly Kolling, Hannah Morrical and Katie Bellah had two each. Anderson, Bellah and Hannah McBride all roped triples.
The Vikings completed the sweep with a 14-3 rout in the second game as they scored in five of the six innings played since the game ended with a run-rule.
McBride was the winning pitcher, permitting just two hits. Offensive leaders were Morgan Loder (triple, two runs, two RBIs, two steals), Morrical (two hits), Keni Campell (two doubles, three RBIs), McBride (two runs), Anderson (two hits, two RBIs) and Hannah Lemen (two hits, two runs, two RBIs).
The 4-8 Vikings host Sterling on Tuesday.
