LINDSBORG — Bethany’s College’s Seth Derr, a freshman from Phillipsburg, has been named the KCAC Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week.
Derr finished first out of 29 in the collegiate division of the men's javelin at the prestigious Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa on April 25.
Derr's throw of 209-9 set a new Bethany College school record, and topped a field of competitors consisting of student-athletes from NCAA Division I institutions.
"Seth is a remarkable student-athlete who truly devotes his time to his studies, team and to the track," BC coach Ken Ciolek said. "He is one of the first Swedes to compete at the prestigious Drake Relays, but to win the college division is a true testament to Seth and his work ethic. We are extremely proud of him, and look forward to even bigger things for him and the team down the road."
This is the third KCAC Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week honor for Derr. He also earned the honors April 14 for his performance at the Wichita State University Invitational and March 24 for his performance at the UCA Relays.
