LINDSBORG — Bethany College sophomore Stephanie Minder, from Loami, Ill., has been named the KCAC Softball Pitcher of the Week.
"We are very excited to have Stephanie Minder receive the Pitcher of the Week honor," Bethany coach Janice Esses said. "Stephanie worked hard over the summer and fall to give herself an opportunity to contribute on the softball field. With no varsity experience last season, she has made big strides and we are very proud of her efforts. She has had several good games throughout the season, but has been working to reduce the number of walks given up per game. Stephanie put together a great game against one of the top teams in the conference and only gave up one walk in her shutout effort. We need her to build from this performance through our conference tournament this week."
Minder threw a complete game shutout against Ottawa University on April 22. Through seven innings, she allowed no runs and only four hits and one walk, tallying six strikeouts. Heading into the doubleheader, Ottawa was tied for first in the KCAC.
This is the fifth time a Swede softball player has earned KCAC Athlete of the Week honors. Bethany previously earned four KCAC Player of the Weeks: Senior Kelli Traffas Week Six (March 24) and Week Four (March 10); senior Ashley Nicolich Week Two (Feb. 24); sophomore Ashley Montoya Week One (Feb. 17).
Minder is the daughter of Robert and Rebecca Minder, and is majoring in biology.
