LINDSBORG — Bethany College’s men’s tennis team is now 10th in the NAIA national rankings.
"Our men finished their regular season undefeated against NAIA opponents, which helped in the rankings this year," Bethany coach Vic Bateman said. "As always, rankings won't mean anything if we don't play well at the national tournament. It will be the first time attending the national tournament for most of our players, as we graduated a lot of our top players last year, so it will be a good test for the new guys to adjust to the hotter, humid conditions, but we hope to at least defend our ranking position and hopefully move higher."
The Swedes were previously ranked 11th in Poll Five on April 15, 12th in Poll Four on April 1, 14th in Poll Three on March 18, 15th in Poll Two on March 4, 11th in Poll One on February 18, and 10th in the Preseason Top 25 Poll on January 28.
The poll was voted on by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and unaffiliated groups.
Bethany is also currently ranked first in the Conference/A.I.I./Unaffiliated Group Poll for the KCAC. Following Bethany is McPherson College, Bethel College, Friends University, Ottawa University, Tabor College, Southwestern College and Kansas Wesleyan University.
The Swedes won their 11th straight KCAC title, and are headed to the NAIA National Championships May 13-17 in Mobile, Ala. Bethany is currently 19-2 overall this year, and an undefeated 7-0 in the KCAC. Their only losses on the season came against 17th-ranked NCAA Division II Cameron University and NCAA Division II Northwest Missouri State University.
