LINDSBORG — Freshman Brynne Stockman pitched another strong game for the Smoky Valley softball team Thursday, leading it to a 3-2 victory over Abilene in the first game of two.
The Cowgirls earned the split with a 7-3 triumph in the second game, which leaves the Vikings at 5-9, 4-8 in the CKL.
Stockman scattered six hits and fanned nine to pick up her third win of the year. Smoky Valley led 3-0 before Abilene scored single runs in the fifth and seventh innings to make it close.
Morgan Loder was 3 for 3 and slugged a double, good for two RBIs. Stockman also helped her own cause by driving in a run. Katie Bellah collected two hits and scored two runs.
Abilene denied the Vikings a sweep in Game 2 by scoring six runs in the third inning. It was 7-0 before Smoky had a three-run uprising in the fourth, but it needed a lot more.
Hannah McBride took the loss, though she allowed only two earned runs as errors led to five freebies. Jurnee Gregg was 3 for 3 and Kelsie Anderson drove in two runs.
The Vikings play Monday at Halstead.
