LINDSBORG — Bethany College men’s basketball coach Clair Oleen likes big guards and he’s added another one to the Swedes’ fold.

Gary Jones, a 6-5 guard from Glenn Heights, Texas, recently signed a letter of intent with the Swedes.

Jones is transferring from Northwood University. He averaged 6.2 points per game, 2.7 rebounds and shot 54 percent from the field.

"We are pleased to announce that Gary will be transferring to Bethany College from Northwood University,” Oleen said. “Gary is a tremendous athlete who can really defend and rebound. Gary really came on late in the season for Northwood in the Sooner Athletic Conference games as he scored in double figures five of their last six conference games. We have had a lot of success with long, athletic guards and Gary's length, athleticism and work ethic will fit into our defensive scheme very well."

The Swedes had big guards last year in 6-5 Ibn IbnIdris and 6-4 Kirby Hawkins, both of whom were prolific scorers.

Jones plans to major in criminal justice.
