Severe weather in McPherson County Wednesday evening caused a train to derail near Galva and several power outages were reported as well.

According to McPherson County Emergency Management director Darren Frazier, the Union Pacific train had thirty-two cars and was carrying household products like shampoo and soap, so there was no major hazardous materials concern with the train. Power was restored by Thursday morning and Canton-Galva schools were open, according to Canton-Galva USD 419 Superintendent Bill Seidl.

Also, wind associated with the storm system prompted the cancellation of Wednesday night's May Fete performance, and a dust cloud kicked up by the storm's outflow winds briefly reduced visibilities in the eastern part of McPherson around 6:30 Wednesday night.
