SALINA — McPherson High’s baseball team was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The Salina South Cougars have been on a tear recently and they added to it Friday with a sweep of the Bullpups, 9-2 and 7-2.

MHS is now 6-12 and finishes regular-season play Tuesday at Salina Central.

In the first game, it was spirited until the fifth inning when the Cougars scored four times.

Griffin Myers had two hits for the Bullpups. MHS had seven as a team, all singles. Marcus McDaniel took the loss.

In the second game, MHS jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning, but it was all zeroes after that. South scored in five of its six innings as it methodically chipped away.

Again, the Bullpups had a papercut offense with five singles, two of them by Caleb Schmidt. He also was the losing pitcher.

No JV scores were available.
