HESSTON — The Hesston Swathers will enter the Class 3-2-1A State Tennis Tournament armed with both of its doubles teams and a singles entrant.

The third-ranked Swathers came away with a regional championship on Saturday, scoring 19 points to 14 for runner-up Sterling. Trinity Catholic was the third team in the hunt with 12 points, while the rest of the field was far back.

The Swathers’ Collin Martin and Isaac Penner will be one of the top state seeds with a 17-3 record after winning the regional title, knocking off Trinity’s Dominic Deluca and Eric Banning in the finals, 6-1, retired.

Hesston’s other doubles team of Grant Dahlsten and Garrett Roth also marched on, taking third and will enter state with a 24-6 record.

In singles, Hesston’s Keegan LeFevre made it to the finals before running into Sacred Heart’s Stratton Brown, who pushed his record to 28-1 with an uber-impressive 6-0, 6-0 victory. Brown shot through the field without losing a single game as he was a hitting machine.

LeFevre is 16-7 on the year.

The state meet begins Friday in Goddard, with the semifinal and championship rounds set for Saturday.
