LINDSBORG — Austin Rivera has signed a letter of intent to play basketball for head coach Clair Oleen and Bethany College in the 2014-2015 academic year.
Rivera, a 6-2 guard from Frederick, Colo., played three years of football and four years of basketball at Frederick High School. He averaged 12.4 points per game, 5.2 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.4 steals per game in his senior year.
Rivera was a two-time Times Call Athlete of the Week, a 4A Tri Valley All-Conference Honorable Mention his junior season and a 4A Tri Valley All-Conference his senior season. He was named to the All-State honorable mention team and was on the Weld County All-Star Team his senior year.
In both his junior and senior seasons Rivera won the "Not in My House" award at Frederick High School for the most blocks in the season. His senior year he was also the "Chairman of the Boards" for most rebounds for the season, and won the "Sharp Shooter" award for the top field goal percentage on the season at 64%.
"We are pleased to have Austin Rivera choose to continue his education and basketball career at Bethany College," Oleen said. "A note of thanks on the "assist" from Bethany alums and former Bethany Board of Director Members, Eric Doering and Jerri Modrall, who know the Rivera family well. Austin is a super young man who plays the game with a lot of effort and passion."
Rivera is the son of David and Kim Rivera, and he plans to major in graphic design and media arts while he attends Bethany College.
