Central Christian College, in conjunction with the McPherson Recreation Commission, will be hosting the 19th annual “Victory Soccer Camp at CCC” June 9-13 for boys and girls ages 7 to 18.
The camp was started back in 1996 by then-CCC men’s soccer coach Emir Ruis Esparza. When Esparza left CCC after the 1999 season, the camp was directed by CCC women’s head coach Mike Reimer. Reimer directed the Victory from 2000 to 2013. Last summer he moved his family to Oregon in July after directing his final camp in June. The 2014 camp will be the first under CCC head men’s coach Aaron Hoxie.
Hoxie is committed to keeping the mission of the camp the same, while giving it some minor “facelifts.” He has started by making a minor change to the name of the camp. For the past 18 years the camp has just been referred to a “Victory.” This year Hoxie has chosen to add “at CCC” to differentiate from other camps that might carry the “Victory” moniker.
Also for the first time, the college will be partnering with the McPherson Recreation Commission (YMCA). Hoxie commented on the reason for the partnership saying, “It did not make sense to me for there to be two Christian organizations running soccer camps and costing parents more money over the summer. Therefore, we have combined our collective strengths to create a soccer camp that is faith-based with quality instruction and a dedication to teaching players this wonderful game.”
There will be some other format changes to the camp as Hoxie puts his own personal stamp on the operation, but what won’t change is the commitment to providing the youth of McPherson and the surrounding areas a quality camp with Christ at the center.
