LINDSBORG — Smoky Valley concluded regular-season softball play with a 10-10 record following a split Monday with Sterling.
The Vikings started the season 1-7, but won nine of their final 12 games.
The first game was tied at 2-all when the Vikings socked the Black Bears with five runs in the fourth inning before they hung on for a 7-5 victory.
Brynne Stockman ran her record to 7-4 with a 15-strikeout virtuoso.
Offensive leaders were Morgan Loder (three hits, one a double, two RBIs), Carly Kolling (a double), Keni Campbell (three doubles) and Kelsie Anderson (two hits, one a double).
Smoky Valley appeared on its way to a sweep, up 3-0 after three innings,. But Sterling scored three times in the fourth and finally pushed across a run in the eighth for a 4-3 win.
Stockman took the loss in relief of Hannah McBride.
Jurnee Gregg had two hits for the Vikes and Campbell had a double.
Smoky Valley finished CKL play with a 9-9 record. It plays a week from today in the Class 4A Division II regional at Seneca and is expected to be the No. 2 seed.
