Great day for Swather T & F teams

HALSTEAD — Hesston High’s boys captured six gold medals Thursday in the Central Kansas League Track and Field Championships on their way to 109 points, good for first place.

Halstead took second with 73 1/2.

Ryan Schadler had four of the firsts, winning the 100 (11.0), 200 (22.3), 400 (49.2) and long jump (22-8 1/2). 

Justin Smith won the triple jump in 43-6, while Zach Esau came away with first in the 1,600 (4:39.3).

Smoky Valley’s boys took sixth with 44 points. Mason Weiss had the top individual finish by taking second in the 300 hurdles (41.9).

The Hesston girls scored 113 points to tie with Pratt for the title. Smoky Valley was sixth with 45 1/2.

Ali Jost had a big day for Hesston, winning the 100 (13.0) and 200 (27.1). The 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 relays teams also took first.

Smoky Valley’s biggest points came in the 400 as Kate Deterding and Emily Deterding were 2-3 in 1:04.1 and 1:04.4, respectively.
