Eighty-one Central Christian College graduates will be honored throughout commencement weekend, this Friday and Saturday. Sixty-six students will be awarded baccalaureate degrees and fifteen will receive associate degrees.

Events for graduates, their families and friends of Central Christian College will begin with Baccalaureate and Honors Night at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Baccalaureate students will be honored for their accomplishments and faculty and staff members will also be recognized for their years of service. The baccalaureate speaker will be Provost Lenny Favara, the senior class’ selected speaker.

On Saturday, May 17, at 10:00 a.m., in the Free Methodist Church Fellowship Hall (1010 S. Maple St.), the senior class will have brunch with their families before participating in an ivy cutting ceremony. During this time, graduates will share highlights of their college experiences, and graduates, parents and faculty will participate in a litany signifying the end of the students' time together at Central. The president’s and dean’s citation honorees will also have the opportunity to address their classmates.

Also at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday the School of Professional Education graduates will gather for an honors ceremony. Academic honors cords will be presented and select students will be inducted into the Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society. A brunch will be served to graduates and their families and they will hear from the President and Provost.

That afternoon, the Commencement ceremony, which will include the awarding of diplomas, will begin at 2:30 p.m. in the Alexander Arena of the Ed Pyle Sports Complex (1320 S. Main St.). Chief Student Affairs Officer Chris Smith will present the commencement address. Also during commencement, Dr. Jerry and Marie Alexander, long-time residents of McPherson, will be honored as this year’s Academe of Achievers award recipients.

Immediately following Commencement, graduates and their families will enjoy a reception on the M.B. Miller Heritage Plaza. A reception for the Alexanders will be held in Alumni Dining Room of the Broadhurst Student Center, just off of the Plaza.
