Johnson leads BC golfers at nationals

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Bethany College men's golf team finished its season Friday afternoon at the NAIA Men's National Championships at the LPGA International. The Swedes shot a team-best for the week, 298, to finish in 15th place.

Ben Johnson led the Swedes’ final round with a 2-under-par 70. The round left him at even-par 216 for the tournament.

Johnson's 2-under was the best round he had at the tournament. He opened the tournament shooting a 71 and shot 75 on Wednesday. Johnson started the final round tied for 27th place and by the end of the day he was tied for 12th place.

James Tisdale played another solid round for Bethany. After shooting 6-over-par his first day, Tisdale settled in nicely and shot back-to-back rounds of 73, only 1-over. His three-day total of 224 left him tied for 54th place.

Bethany's Jose Acevedo shot a final-round 75. 

He finished the tournament tied for 19th place. He shot rounds of 71, 72 and 75 to have a three-round total of 218. Acevedo, only a freshman, was tied for sixth place going into the third and final round,.

Greg Miller finished his third round with an 80 and finished with a three-round total of 238.

Bethany's Matt O'Neill finished Friday with an 85. His three-day total was 253. 

"Our three guys played well and kept us in the race," Bethany coach Jon Daniels said. "It was certainly not where we wanted to end up. I was excited for James the way he finished his career, for Ben coming in 12th place, and for Jose to start out his career in the Top 20."
