McPherson Police Chief Robert McClarty informed the City Commission at Monday's meeting that responders from McPherson to a July 2013 standoff in Wichita were commended for their work along with nine other teams from Central and South-Central Kansas by the Kansas Association of Police Chiefs.

The approximately 32 hour standoff that stretched from July 10, 2013 through much of July 11, 2013, ended when the suspect, Jared Woosypiti, was killed by police gunfire. The team received its award at a banquet held last Thursday. The award will be permanently displayed at the Law Enforcement Center.
