HESSTON — Hesston’s golf team survived brutal conditions Monday to qualify for the Class 3A State Tournament during regional play at the Hesston Municipal Course.

The Swathers shot an uncharacteristic 349, but given the gale-force winds that was easily good enough to qualify. Only Wichita Collegiate (333) and Hesston broke the 400 mark as conditions made low scoring virtually impossible.

The Swathers were led by tourney runner-up Titus Ewert, who shot a 79 to trail medalist Ian Trebilock by six shots.

Other scores for the Swathers were Matt Thayne (84, good for fourth), Nick Eckhoff (91), Jack Barnhart (95), Trey Denno (95) and Cole Seltzer (108).

The Swathers and Collegiate will compete in the 3A state tourney Tuesday at Cheney.
