ULYSSES — McPherson High’s baseball season ended abruptly Monday in the opening round of the Class 4A Division I Regional Tournament.

Seventh-ranked Andale-Garden Plain struck for five first-inning runs and went on for a 10-0, run-rule victory to drop the curtain on the Bullpups’ season.

MHS unfortunately went up against A-GP ace Tyler Jones, who is arguably the state’s best pitcher as he has not allowed an earned run all year. He gave up one hit in four innings and struck out four while not walking a hitter. He threw only 48 pitches and 34 of them were strikes.

Jones has signed to pitch for Wichita State. He now has not allowed an earned run in 43 innings and just one unearned run for the season.

Alex Ruxlow took the loss, but he was hampered by some leaky defense as the Bullpups committed five errors in just four innings.

Micah McCulley’s single was the Bullpups’ only hit.

Andale-Garden Plain routed Ulysses 11-1 in the championship game to advance to the state tournament.

MHS finished the year 7-14, but will return most of its team as the only seniors were Ruxlow, Logan Schrag and Ethan Nadeau.
