LINDSBORG — Nilija Lala Burnett, of McKinney, Texas, has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Bethany College for the 2014-15 academic year.
Burnett comes to the Swedes from Creekview High School in Carrollton, Texas. The 5-7 guard averaged 12 points per game and 3 rebounds. She shot 47 percent from the field and 65 percent from the free-throw line.
In addition to playing four years of basketball, Burnett pole vaulted on the track team for two years, and played a year of volleyball. She was named to the Academic All-District team for the 2013-14 season.
"We are very excited to announce that Lala Burnett has decided to attend Bethany College next year,” Bethany coach Brett Morehouse said. “Lala is a very athletic and already has good size and strength for a perimeter player in our league. She is extremely competitive and plays aggressively on both ends of the floor, which are two areas that we will need to improrve within our program in order to contend in the KCAC. We look forward to helping her develop as a person and as a player over the next four years."
Burnett is the daughter of Kendra Burnett. She plans to major in Business and Accounting while studying at Bethany College.
