ABILENE — McPherson High qualified for the state track and field meet in nine individual events during Friday’s Class 4A regional, as well as one relay.

It was a particularly good day for Chris Stoppel, who moves on in the 100 and 200 meters. He won the 100 (11.4) and took second in the 200 (22.8). He’s also on the state-qualifying 4 x 100 relay team that also included Dylan Shook, Collin Harvey and Taylor Kynaston (44.8).

Harvey also moves on in the 100 (11.6) to round out the boys’ entries.

On the girls’ side, MHS had three regional champions in Megan Pedersen (high jump in 5-2), Bri Cooks (shot put in 42-2) and Morgan Howard (100 hurdles in 16.1).

Also qualifying were Rachel Dossett (high jump in 4-8), Ivanna Moyer (shot put in 35-10)) and Amy Suenram (long jump in 16-5).

The MHS girls took second overall.

“We had a great showing at the regional meet tonight,” MHS coach Jace Pavlovich said.   “We had nine individual entrants qualify and one relay. The kids did a tremendous job staying focused with a two-hour rain delay as well as competing in a downpour.  We had quite a few kids fall just short of qualifying by placing fifth.  I feel very good about where we are headed as a team for next year.”
