CHENEY — The hits just keep on coming at Hesston High School.
The Swathers’ spectacular sports year continued Tuesday when their golf team was the best of the rest at the Class 3A State Tournament.
Wichita Collegiate, last year’s 4A champion before dropping down along with Hesston this year, was untouched as it toured Cherry Oaks with a four-man total of 302.
Hesston led the pack for the rest of the field with a 317 and Sabetha took the third team plaque with 323.
It was an amazing day for Hesston’s Titus Ewert, who tied with Wichita Collegiate’s Ian Trebilcock for medalist honors with a 71. Trebilcock drained a 30-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole.
Hesston’s Matt Thayne shot a 76 to tie for fourth. Jack Barnhart was next for the Swathers with an 80 and Trey Denno’s 90 was the final score to count toward the team total.
Hesston High won both the boys and girls state basketball championships in March and recently took third in the state in boys tennis. It also has a great chance at Top-3 finishes in boys and girls track and field this weekend at Wichita.
