GREAT BEND — On a day where pitching dominated, Little River’s Tevin Renken was among the brightest stars.

Renken shutout ball Thursday in leading the Redskins to a 5-0 victory over Elkhart in the first round of the Class 2-1A State Baseball Tournament.

Little River, now 19-5, plays Troy at 1:30 p.m. today for the right to advance to the finals.

All four games featured great pitching. Udall blanked Cedar Vale-Dexter 4-0, Colgan got past Mission Valley 4-2 and Troy blanked Ellis, 5-0.

Udall and Colgan, regarded as the favorites going into the tournament, meet in today’s other semifinal.

The third-place game is set for 4 p.m., with the championship game at 6:30.
