When McPherson High’s girls basketball team faces El Dorado this year, a familiar face will be on the sidelines for the Wildcats.
McPherson High graduate Jordan Crawford recently was hired as head coach. He served as an assistant under El Dorado boys coach Gary Melcher last year. Apparently some of his winning McPherson tradition rubbed off on the Wildcats, as they came up one game short of playing for the Class 4A Division I state championship and wound up taking fourth place.
Crawford was a four-year standout for the Bullpups, including the 2006-07 season in which he was their leading scorer with 14.1 points a game and averaged 6.2 rebounds. MHS finished second in the 5A state tourney that year to Highland Park.
He later went on to play at Central Christian College before transferring to McPherson College, helping the Bulldogs to NAIA National Tournament. He also earned All-American honors and during the 2011-12 season, the Bulldogs were a school-record 33-4 and advanced to the Final Four.
Crawford is the second MHS grad to recently be hired for a new job as Monday former Bullpup Chad Kline was named head coach at Arkansas Tech University.
