LINDSBORG — Bethany College baseball coach Andrew Bartman went all the way to Puerto Rico for his latest signee.

Russell Torres, Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico, will be joining the Swedes next season.

Torres is from Colegio San Jose-Rio Piedras, where he was a catcher for four years. Torres earned first-team All-Alliance honors and was named to the High School All-Star Game.

Off the field, Torres was an honor student and a member of National Honor Society.

"We are very excited to welcome Russell to the Swedes family," Bartman said. "I know from watching him this fall that he can come in and compete right away for us behind the plate. In addition to Russell being a quality catcher, he also excels in the classroom, which we are equally excited about. I look forward to watching him grow as a player and person over the next four years."

His parents are Russell Torres and Damaris Pineiro. A 3.5 student, he will major in biology.
