At approximately 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2014, McPherson County 911 was advised of a hit-and run collision in the intersection of Maxwell and Kansas Avenue in McPherson, KS. The 18 year old McPherson victim of the hit and run accident was transported to McPherson Hospital in fair condition for treatment and she has been subsequently treated and released.
The suspect vehicle left the scene of the accident and was reported heading southbound on Maxwell Street. Dispatch received further reports that the vehicle had been abandoned near the 1900 block of South Maxwell (15th Avenue) and the occupant of the vehicle was in the area. Officers responded and the subject was located. The subject charged a McPherson police officer and was shot. The injured subject was transported to McPherson Hospital and subsequently was declared dead.
The identity of the deceased subject is Timothy Ronald Lloyd, 56, a white male of Kanopolis, Kansas. His family has been notified.
At a press conference Wednesday afternoon, McPherson City Attorney Jeff Houston said that consistent with department policy, the investigation is being turned over to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, and that the officer involved is on administrative leave with pay pending the results of the KBI investigation. The KBI will inform the McPherson County Attorney and the McPherson Chief of Police of their findings once the investigation has concluded.
The name of the officer who discharged a weapon has not yet been released.
