LINDSBORG — Bethany College women’s basketball coach Brett Morehouse continues to replenish the Swedes’ roster for the upcoming season.

Sydney Ahaneku of Thorton, Colo. recently signed a letter of intent with the Swedes.

The 5-10 Ahaneku played for Belleview Christian School in Westminster. She was a four-year, three-sport athlete, competing in basketball, volleyball and soccer.

"We are really fortunate to be able to bring in another quality student-athlete like Sydney,” Morehouse said. “She is an outstanding student who will be active on campus in many areas other than just athletics.”

Ahaneku, who was a team captain, earned second-team All-State and made her conference’s first team.

During her career, Ahaneku averaged 9.5 points per game, 11.7 rebounds and 3.2 blocks per game as she was a defensive presence.

"Sydney brings much-needed size, length and depth to our front court,” Morehouse said. “She put up some pretty incredible stats during her career at Belleview. In addition to collecting over 1,100 rebounds, she scored more than 890 points and would have certainly scored 1,000 points had she not been injured during her senior season. Sydney is excited to begin her career as a Swede and we look forward to helping her develop as a player and person over the next four years.”

She is the daughter of Boniface and Gethrude Ahaneku. She has a 3.9 grade point average and plans to major in biology with an emphasis in pre-med.
