LINDSBORG — New Bethany College head wrestling coach Cody Garcia has signed a Kansas state placer as his latest recruit.

John Ross Hughes of Fort Scott High School, who was third in Class 4A at 160 pounds this year at Salina, is the newest Swede.

He was selected to the All-Academic honorable mention team and the All-Southeast Kansas Team. He also received the United States Marine Corp Distinguished Athlete Award.

"We are excited to have John choose us to be a part of his journey," Garcia said. "He is a great fit for this program and will have a positive impact on those around him with his attitude and abilities on and off the mat. John has shown tremendous improvements and I am confident that his work ethic will help him continue to develop into a force at the next level."

Hughes’ brother, Victor, already is a member of the Swedes. The brothers are the sons of Russell and Patricia Hughes. John will major in art education.
