Treg Fawl appears to be firm control of the 31st annual McPherson City Golf Tournament as he’s barreling his toward his fourth straight title and fifth in the last six years.
Fawl shot a bogey-free 68 Saturday at Rolling Acres to widen his lead to five over Jamie Piper. Piper shot a 69, but all that did was cause him to lose ground.
Fawl has a 145 total and Piper is at 150. Former two-time champion Nick Ikenberry is in third at 152, shooting even-par 72 at Rolling Acres.
Fawl and his father, Tony, also have a three-shot lead in the team event with a 72-68-140. Piper and Monty Koehn are second at 143, while Craig Corrigan and Kurt Kinnamon are third at 144.
Piper and Koehn shot a 66 in the second round and were tied for the best round of the day by Mark Wash and Steve Sell, who improved by 13 shots over their first round.
