McPherson’s American Legion baseball team brought out the heavy artillery on Saturday during the Bob Hooper Classic.
Post 24 piled up 38 runs in winning a pair of lopsided games to run its record to 7-5.
McPherson began play with a 15-6 win over the Kansas Cannons 16. It had six extra-base hits, including triples by Cody Starkel, Marcus McDaniel and Kolby Reed. Doubles were stroked by Brodie Burney, Griffin Myers and Andrew Powell.
Burney drove in four runs, while two RBIs each were attained by Starkel, Reed and Jacob Loecker.
McPherson had separate innings of six and seven runs to seize command of the game.
Myers started on the mound, with Caleb Schmidt working in relief.
That game turned out to be a warmup, as Post 24 lambasted El Dorado 23-2 with a 20-hit attack.
Burney went yard for the biggest hit of the game. He also had a double, as did Starkel, McDaniel, Schmidt and Micah MuCulley.
Burney drove in four runs, while Starkel, Schmidt, McDaniel and Powell all added three RBIs.
Starkel was nails on the mound with seven strikeouts. The game ended when McPherson scored 13 runs in the top of the fifth.
The tournament wraps up today.
