LINDSBORG — Clair Oleen’s work never seems to be done.
Oleen added yet another stalwart to his Bethany College men’s basketball team with the recent signing of Spencer Bankofier of Happy Valley, Ore.
Bankofier is a 5-11 point guard from Clackamas Community College. As a sophomore, he earned second-team All-League honors and was a Sophomore All-Star. His freshman year, Bankofier was named first-team All-Defense and second-team All-League.
He averaged 12.7 points per game as a sophomore, as well as 4.8 assists and 3.3 rebounds. He is an outstanding shooter, sinking 44 percent of his 3-point attempts and 85 percent of his free throws.
In high school, he was a four-year member of the basketball team, starting three years as point guard. Bankofier was named to the first-team 3-Rivers All-Star team as a senior. He also was a participant in the Oregon Gatorade All-Star Game.
"We are pleased to have Spencer Bankofier continue his education and basketball career at Bethany College," Oleen said. "Spencer comes from a great basketball family and had a tremendous sophomore season at Clackamas Community College for coach Clif Wegner. Spencer is a very good and positive leader who handles and passes the ball very well. In addition, he can really shoot the ball well with three-point range and is a good defender."
Bankofier is the son of Randy and Peggy Bankofier. He plans to study business at Bethany.
