LINDSBORG — Bethany College wrestling coach Cody Garcia went all the way to Michigan for his latest recruit.

Hunter McCoy, from Dearborn Heights, Mich., has signed a letter of intent to wrestle for the Swedes.

McCoy was a three-time Michigan High School Athletic Association state qualifier for Annapolis High School. He started varsity all four years in high school and wrestled in three different weight classes — 160, 171 and 189. His career record was 176-37.

He also started on the varsity football team for three years as a center and defensive tackle. He participated in track for one year as a thrower and played baseball for two seasons.

"We are excited to have Hunter join our wrestling family," Garcia said. "He has a passion for the sport and the determination needed to succeed at this level. With the support of his family and the commitment to getting better, Hunter will be a great fit and help us continue to rise as a program."

McCoy plans to major in physical education and is the son of Stephen and Wendy McCoy.
