WICHITA — The KCAC announced this week that four Bethany College golfers have earned conference Scholar-Athlete recognition.
For the men, Jose Luis Lelo de Larrea and Ben Johnson are the representatives. The two helped Bethany finish in the Top 20 in the final NAIA men's golf poll.
Lelo de Larrea was a KCAC All-Conference Award winner. He finished tied for seventh at the KCAC Tournament and was credited with 133.5 individual points.
Johnson was honored for his play throughout the year. He was also a KCAC All-Conference award winner, a PING All-Region honoree, earned a spot on the All-Tournament team at the NAIA Nationals and was a third-team NAIA All-American. He finished tied 12th overall at the NAIA Nationals. He was named KCAC Golfer of the Week on three occasions, won three different tournaments and tied for first in another.
Lelo de Larrea was a senior from Queretaro, Mexico. He majored in business. Johnson was a junior from West Sussex, England. He is a sport management and finance major.
Melodeigh Christiansen and Tiffany Youngquist represented the Swedes on the women's side. The two helped Bethany finish third at the KCAC Championships. Christiansen finished tied for 15th and Youngquist finished in 24th place.
Christiansen is a junior from Denver and is majoring in math education. Youngquist is also a junior. She is from Lindsborg and is an elementary education major.
