McPherson’s glistening 12-game American Legion baseball winning streak ended with a thud here Tuesday night.

A seven-run eighth inning only uglied up what already had been a long night for Post 24’s Under-17 team as the Newton Senior Legion came away with a 17-1 victory in a single game scheduled for nine innings.

Post 24 couldn’t get anything going throughout the night, while the Knights peppered the McPherson pitching staff for runs in six of the eight innings.

Six different McPherson hitters sprayed singles, with Griffin Myers scoring the only run.

Four pitchers paraded to the mound, starting with Marcus McDaniel, followed by Jacob Loecker, Jack Reifschneider and finally Myers.

The loss dropped McPherson to 17-6 on the year. It is scheduled to host the Salina Hawks tonight, with first pitch set for 6:00.
