SHAWNEE — The bats surprisingly went cold for the McPherson Under-18 Lady Express this past weekend in the 18A State Tournament, as the team's expected lengthy stay was short-circuited in three games.

To show the consistency of this team down through the years, it was the first time in 81 games that it had lost back-to-back games, covering three summers.

McPherson is now 12-5 on the year, but has a chance to redeem itself in the World Series July 28-Aug. 2 in Overland Park.

A summary:

• Express 6, NCK Adrenaline 1 — The Express went deep, as Hannah Marshall, Jasmine Wann and Madison Hoffman all hit home runs. Wann and Hoffman also doubled. Wann and Marshall finished with two RBIs. Allison Weber was the winner, with Hoffman also pitching.

• Legacy 6, Express 1 — Legacy scored three runs in the first and three more in the fourth, while keeping the normally high-octane McPherson offense in check. Weber drove in Hoffman with the only run. Hoffman and Chelsey Kerr had singles for the only hits. Weber took the loss and Hoffman pitched in relief.

• Kansas Cannons 6, Express 1 — An uncharacteristic seven McPherson errors led to its second loss of the event. Weber had two hits, one of them a triple, and the Express was held to five in the game. Wann was credited with the only RBI when she drove in Kerr. Hoffman took the loss and Weber also pitched.
