Eight Mac College athletic teams earn national academic status

Not only did McPherson College athletic teams excel on the field, they were stars off the field in 2013-14.

Eight teams were named Tuesday as NAIA Scholar Teams. They were men's soccer, men's tennis, softball, volleyball, women's basketball, women's cross country, women's indoor track and field and women's tennis.

Those eight teams earned an aggregate grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

The Bulldog volleyball team was especially studious, compiling a school-leading 3.51 grade point average. Tennis was the top men’s team at 3.17.

Earning honors:

• Volleyball, 3.51

• Softball, 3.32

• Women's cross country, 3.26

• Women's basketball, 3.25

• Men's tennis, 3.17

• Women's indoor track and field, 3.15

• Women's tennis, 3.13

• Men's soccer, 3.06
