McPherson’s Under-17 American Legion baseball team will play in the kickoff game of the Class A State Tournament on Wednesday in Leavenworth.

Post 24, which has won 17 of its last 18 games, takes a 22-6 record into its opener against Andover Central at 1 p.m. Wednesday. McPherson’s last state appearance was in 2010.

A win and McPherson would play at 6 p.m. Thursday against the winner of the Salina Eagles and Dodge City. A loss would tumble Post 24 into the 10 a.m. elimination game on Thursday.

If McPherson wins its first two games, it would play at 6 p.m. Friday. The championship game is set for 2:30 p.m. Saturday. If a second championship game is needed since the tournament is double-elimination, it would be played at 12:30 p.m. Sunday.

In the bottom of the bracket, Manhattan plays Doniphan City at 6 p.m. Wednesday, followed by Paola against Geiger Ready Mix of Leavenworth at 8:30.
