LINDSBORG — There is going to be no shortage of competition on the Bethany College baseball team this season as coach Andrew Bartman continued his relentless recruiting by announcing his latest signing today.
Garrett Boothe, of Merced, Calif., is the newest Swede.
Boothe is versatile, as he can play first base, third base and the outfield. He is a transfer from Merced College, where he set the school record for most doubles in a game and earned second-team All-Conference honors as a freshman.
Boothe earlier graduated from Merced High School, where he played baseball all four years, starting three years on varsity while playing second, third and first base. He led the team go to section playoffs his senior year and played on an All-Area team.
He also played American Legion baseball with the Merced Volunteers beginning his sophomore year, and went to the state championship with the Volunteers for three years. He also played with the Atwater Aviators the summer of his freshman year of college.
"I am very happy to announce that Garrett Boothe will be joining our program this fall," Bartman said. "When I met with Garrett in California, I came away impressed with him as a person. He is the type of blue-collar player that we are looking to build this program with. I also look for him to come in and swing the bat immediately for us."
He is the son of Julie and Jesse Boothe and plans to major in history.
